Client: Pachube

Project:
Visual identity for a real-time data IOT monitoring platform

Scope:
Website design, user interface, visual identity, and information architecture.
Pachube was a real-time data monitoring platform for the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing users to store, share, and visualise data from any sensor or device — from everyday household items to industrial systems.

The platform had a global user base, represented on the homepage with a live map of active Pachube ‘Feeds’, immediately communicating the platform’s reach and dynamism.

Design Approach:
The site was designed for ease of interaction, enabling users to find, manage, and explore data feeds quickly. Key features such as tags and units of measurement — entered by users themselves — were made highly visible and searchable, supporting efficient discovery and engagement. With a wealth of rich information available, multiple entry points were created to encourage exploration.

To avoid a clichéd ‘Web 2.0’ look, the visual identity employed a utilitarian, high-contrast black and yellow colour palette, a strong grid, and bold typography. Background imagery on the virtual Pachube ‘workbench’ included wires, tools, and output devices, reflecting the platform’s connectivity, hacker ethos, and hands-on approach.

Impact:
The rebrand and redesigned interface enhanced user experience, discoverability, and visual clarity, while reinforcing Pachube’s identity as a functional, connected, and innovative IoT platform. Shortly after the rebrand, Pachube was acquired by LogMeIn, underscoring the platform’s value and market impact.
