Smart Energy Kit

Scope:
Brand strategy, visual identity, web and product interface design, marketing communications
The Onzo Smart Energy Kit was designed to provide homeowners with engaging, accessible insights into their energy use, via a portable display and web interface.

As co-founder and 2D design lead, I guided the company from its pre-funding startup stage through a multi-million pound funding round and up to the launch of its first products and services in partnership with SSE Energy.

Onzo required a recognisable, iconic brand identity that would stand out in a competitive market, while remaining consumer-friendly, human, and approachable. The challenge was to make a typically dry subject — energy usage — engaging, understandable, and worthwhile for everyday users.

Over two years, I defined the Onzo brand, then drove the 2D design across all touchpoints, including:

  • Brand strategy and visual identity
  • Website and web interface
  • On-product graphics and display interface
  • Marketing communications and collateral
  • All other graphical outputs across the business

The Onzo Smart Energy Kit was recognised for its design excellence, receiving a Red Dot Design Award, reflecting the successful fusion of brand, interface, and product design in creating a cohesive, consumer-focused experience.
